IEEE C57.136-2023 PDF
This document provides information on sound producing sources in liquid-immersed power transformers. Methods are described for achieving various levels of sound reduction in transformer design, manufacturing, and on site.
This guide supplements other IEEE documents related to sound levels of power transformers. IEEE Std C57.12.00™ defines sound levels and IEEE Std C57.12.90™ describes factory test procedures. The purpose of this guide is to provide practical information about sound level and reduction techniques to assist users and manufacturers in the proper specification, design, manufacturing, testing, and application of liquid-immersed power transformers. This guide does not cover shunt reactors, dry-type, or distribution transformers. This is due to the many different issues related to sound level determination. It is up to the reader to determine applicability of the material in this guide to such equipment.
New IEEE Standard – Active. Information on sources of no-load and load sound in liquid-immersed power transformers is provided in this guide. Industry standards that deal with transformer sound and factors affecting sound levels of transformers in field operation are also discussed. Guidelines are provided for the selection of suitable methods of reduction of transformer sound at the design stage, during manufacturing, and on site. Procedures that are typically used for determining required sound levels of power transformers on site are described. The intent is to provide users and manufacturers with sufficient background that can help produce power transformers that meet limits on sound level required by local sound ordinances.
