AS 2809.5:2022 specifies requirements for the design, construction, inspection and testing of road tank vehicles for the transport of ADG Class 3 and Class 9 bitumen-based products.

This Standard was prepared by the Standards Australia Committee ME-057, Road Tankers for Hazardous Liquids and Gases to supersede AS 2809.5—2001, Road tank vehicles for dangerous goods, Part 5: Tankers for bitumen-based products.

The objective of this document is to provide requirements for the design, construction, inspection and testing of road tank vehicles for the transport of ADG Class 3 and Class 9 bitumen-based products.

The major changes in this edition are as follows:

(a) Issues common to all hazardous cargoes have been moved to AS 2809.1.

(b) Issues pertaining to all flammable cargoes have been moved to AS 2809.2.

(c) New information included for combustion cabin heaters.

(d) New information included on stowage of hoses and other equipment.

(e) A new section on heating systems replaces the previous Appendix A.
